Mr. Markley has a brain of his own and should be allowed to speak regarding issues in HIS High School. The article in the paper sure shows this district who really is in charge and it is a real shame for the administrators.

Dr. Z. must let his administrators speak without his approval.

This is America and everyone has freedom of speech.

One pea size brain is not enough to run this district.

Budget and Finance Committee Meeting

Tax Increase

The Budget and Finance Committee Meeting can best be described in two words, spending and taxing.

The board seeks ways to spend money and then devises plans to raise taxes to pay for their habit.

The business manager indicated the district could raise millage up to 1.24 mills for the 2008-2009 budget. This is a 5.3% increase.

A property owner currently paying $2,342 per $100,000 of assessed value could be paying $2,466 in school property taxes. This increase does not include any exemptions to spending over the 5.3% allowance.

Keep in mind, the board recently transferred $2,900,000 out of the General Fund into the Capital Reserve Fund. $1,400,000 is from the Nextel windfall and $1,500,000 is from budget miscalculations resulting in a surplus.

The effect of this transaction is to prevent the money from being used for property tax relief.
At least $1,600,000 of the transferred amount will go towards the new synthetic field/track.

There are plans to add lighting and a stadium to the complex. The cost will be at least another $250,000.

In addition, the board must set aside $35,000 to $50,000 a year for maintenance of the field alone.

The state and the federal government did not mandate this expense. It was a board decision.

There was also talk about big-ticket items such as a substantial increase in the number of laptops. Currently, there are 400 laptops in the district. They want to increase that number to 700. These computers will require new wireless equipment, software and support. They already have high-speed landlines for internet access.

There will be increases in salaries for 2008-2009. There will be the taxpayer share of teacher pension fund contributions at the rate of 6% of total district salaries. This percentage could increase to 18.15% contribution rate in 2012!

The board has many higher priority obligations, yet they continue to overspend on non-educational items such as an athletic complex.

At no time during the meeting did any board member or administrator raise the issue at to what effect their spending and projected taxes would have on the homeowner.

That concern came from the audience, Cynthia E. Smith, the write-in candidate for school board.

The other new candidates for the board choose not to attend the meeting.

They have lost their minds! It's too bad Pennsylvania doesn't have recall for school board members.

The stage is set. Excitement builds --

Cindi Smith - school board president - leading the festivities of homecoming, under the lights, at Lynx Stadium during halftime of a traditional Friday Night Football game.

WOW - Life is good and GOD is great. Oley moving forward! Unfortunately the concession stand will be serving pigs feet and cow stomach, and wondering why sales are down!

If you're going to use my name - at least spell it correctly.

What a pathetic attempt at humor. I thought the board was the only bad joke in town.

...just wait till Cindi gets on if you like humor! :O

Sick person in above blog!
Nothing is funny about this board and what they are doing with our money and our childrens education.

Also can someone tell us if more cases of MRSA in our schools are true or not?
The children are telling us that people are talking at our High School about more cases!
I also heard that the hand santizer's in the classrooms do not all work.
Can someone fix them please?

Maybe over this weekend when the schools are closed they can be cleaned so that the children will be safe. As we say we care about the children, teachers, aides, custodians, etc.

WEEU, on Thursday, reported that the school was already disinfected.

Good, glad to hear it. The children have been hearing of other cases on Thurs/Fri of this past week, any truth to this or is it just rumors?

Anonymous said...

Oh my goodness! I heard that many of us have MRSA on our skin already. Oh no! We're all going to die! Spread the word!!

Oh wait! I'm not worried anymore. If Cindi gets on the school board, she'll do something to fix it.

10:06 and 10:07 all we wanted was an answer about what the children are talking about. Oh course you would say stupid things like that. It is not a laughing matter. A boy died in VA and a child died in NY. Schools have been shut down because of this and you make a joke. How stupid of you. Not surprising though.

10:06:

You're correct, we're all going to die. And when we do, we'll have to answer to God. He's got limits, you know. Joking about innocent children dying a painful death would probably get you flagged for questioning. Good luck.
